What is a horoscope?

A horoscope is an astrological chart calculated on the date, time and place when something new starts: a life, the foundation of a State or even the launch of a business.

It shows the positions of the sun, moon and planets in one of twelve zodiac signs and displays them in a circle divided into twelve segments called houses. Nowadays, most horoscopes are birth charts for people.

How is a birth chart read?

Astrology applies a symbolic language to the chart to extract meaning. This is what’s meant by a chart reading or interpretation. 

Astrology has evolved over thousands of years, but in essence is based on number symbolism and sacred geometry (i.e. the study of the spiritual meaning of shapes). Because of this, it is both a science and an art.

What will my birth chart show?

Your birth chart shows your rising sign – called the ascendant – which is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the time and place of your birth.

It also reveals the connections between the planets, known as aspects. These are geometrical relationships; squares, oppositions, trines and sextiles for example.

Everything in a chart contains symbolic meaning: the planets themselves, the rising sign and house cusps (or gateways) to the houses, the zodiac signs they occupy, and the geometrical relationships of the aspects between them.

Each part is analysed separately before being combined to give a complete reading.

A chart reading also calculates the planetary positions (including transits) at the time of your request to show which parts of your birth chart are currently being activated. This reveals the themes, issues and life lessons that are particularly relevant at the present time.
